Marilyn Monroe was a classic bombshell and her look was her trademark. With red lipstick, black liquid liner, mascara, taupe and matte white or silver eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, and blusher you can get her look!
Here are her words of advice: 'Study your face very carefully to decide what features you want to focus attention on. No man likes a girl whose face looks like a piece of fancily decorated pastry, but if you're careful you can even bring up the heavy guns like eyeshadow and he'll never know you're "made-up" at all! In my view most girls look more desirable with glistening lids and a moist mouth. A drop of oil on the lids will give the effect, and if you're handy with a lipstick brush there's nothing like it for that luscious look.'
#1. A thick, arched, well groomed eyebrow is essential if you want to look like Marilyn. You may need to fill your in with a tawny brown, or taupe eyebrow pencil or shadow and then set it in place with a clear gel.
#2. Carefully blend smooth matte liquid foundation all over your face using a soft damp sponge.
#3. Photographer Eve Arnold said that Marilyn's greatest asset was her translucent white, luminous skin. To get this effect use MAC Strobe cream (maccosmetics.com), a new generation highlighter that can be worn over or mixed with your foundation. Apply it lightly over your cheeks - its translucent and pearlised qualities will give you Marilyn's shimmering glow.
#4. Clearly define the eyelid's crease with a brown or charcoal powder eyeshadow and apply a little lightly under the eye.
#5. Use a matte white or pale pink eyeshadow as a base on your eyelids - Yeyo Powder White by Urban Decay (urbandecay.com) is perfect for this. Completely cover the eyelid, making sure you take it into the inside corners.
#6. Use the same eyeshadow to highlight the browbone.
#7. Line the upper lash line with a black liquid eyeliner as close to the lashes as possible. Make sure the line tapers from thin to thick in the middle and then to thin again. Sweep the line up and out towards the browbrone. No lash line is needed underneath.
#8. Fake the eyelashes. Marilyn's were applied only halfway across the top eyelid. You can buy eyelashes in this length. Alternatively, just cut a false eyelash in half. Your false eyelash should begin in the middle of your eye and end at the outer corner.
#9. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara from base to tip on the top lashes only, then a much lighter coat on the bottom lashes. Remember - the emphasis should always be on the top of the eyes.
#10. Your secret weapon is the Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener (bobbibrowncosmetics.com) applied to the outer corners of the eye. If you take it up an angle, it will hide any drooping Margaret Thatcher effect!
#11. Using a circular motion, apply some pink blush to the apples of your cheeks with a big brush.
#12. Use a lip brush to cover your lips with a matte red creme lipstick. Cover with some lip gloss or for true Marilyn effect use her trademark Vaseline.
#13. The last and most important step - use a black eye pencil to create Marilyn's beauty spot on the left side of your face, just above your lip.
